There is electric and water down there that was done by someone else before we bought it. I am going to have an inspector check it out to make sure it is sound before I have the drywall done but do I actually need to apply for a permit beyond that. We aren't changing any of the electric or water down there just adding insulation and walls.

  1. lol i dont know

  2. Techically yes, rule off thumb is any improvement to you home For two reasons 1) the improvements may increase the value of your home which may affect your property tax.If you own the property. 2) if there are any safety issues the town wants to manage licensed trademan and things are done correctly. It's all for our best interest

  3. When you have the inspector over, ask him / her about it.  The inspector is probably more knowledgeable about your local codes than someone on the internet stating generalizations from afar.
