  1. Ask city/town office

  2. yes....

  3. All depends if anyone can rat on you!!! No just kidding. It would be the smart thing to do. Remember one day you may want to sell the home, and you want that included in the value.

  4. Ask Your Local Building Inspector.

Stay on their Good Side by Asking before you do the work.

Usually a Plan Is Needed to be submitted to them.

  5. In general, yes.  You are adding more structure to your house, and the building inspector will need to check to ensure that it is built properly.  This means a permit.  Don't try to skip this.  When they reassess the property in your municipality, they will catch it.  If the inspector is a jerk, he will make you remove all work you have done and start all over, including footings.  He would be within his rights.  At the least, you are looking at a hefty fine.  Hope this helps.

  6. If you live in an area where a permit was required to put the original deck up, then yes, you most likely need a permit to add on to it.  (Some of us do live in rural areas where there is no inspection)

It may also depend on just how big you want the addition.

Best be safe, and ask at the municipal, or county offices.

  7. If it doesn't have a roof or cover. and if it is several feet from property line.  Then I would say no.  I wouldn't give them a chance to raise my taxes unless I had to.
