Do I need a public hire licence?

I am setting up a wedding car hire business and need to know wether I need a public hire licence, i hope to do wedding hires but also proms, anniversarys and maybe race days and airport runs, all jobs will obviously be booked in advance, please help. ( England based company)

  1. You don't need a Public Hire Licence.  That is for a vehicle which is available to be hailed in the street (London Black Cabs, bus etc)

    You need a Private Hire Licence if your vehicle can carry less than 9 passengers.

  2. Private Hire maybe. Would be controlled by your local council so ask them (phone book).

  3. Contact your local council. They have a taxi/cab/private hire licencing department who will help you.

  5. Yes, you do need that licence. Plus you have to have a licence for yourself. it is cost a lot so think carefully. Contact your council where you want to start your business.
