Question:

Do I need a rewritable DVD to copy photos this way?

I asked earlier how to batch copy photos from a hard drive to a DVD with the DVD having the same structure of folders and subfolders as the hard drive.

After copying to the DVD, I will delete the photos from the hard drive and begin accumulating new photos there. When I have a bunch, I want to move them as a batch to the hard drive and have them land in the folder/subfolder corresponding to the one they were in on the hard drive.

Two people answered and said I can do this by drag-and-drop-ing the top level folder using Windows Explorer. One of those people said that I should get a rewritable DVD drive.

Do I really need a rewritable? My DVD drive takes DVD +R discs. I assume this is not rewritable.

  1. Hi,

Once you have closed and finished writing to a cd or dvd, then the cd/dvd is closed of and nothing else can be written to it.

The only way to do what you require, eg: adding to an existing cd/dvd is to use a re-writable drive.

This type of drive keeps the cd/dvd open and just treats it as a hard drive, thereby allowing reading and writing.

So you need a CD/DVD RW not just +r and re-writable discs.

  2. You need a DVD+RW disc to do that. DVD+R is not rewritable.

If you don't know how to burn photos to DVD, I think this software would help you , it's easy to use and works pretty well for me
