  1. you'll need a good mosquito bar and I recommend a hammock with a waterproof tarp

  2. Unless you are very high in the mountains you will not be cold. Hostels have beds.  It's the tropics, so down jackets are not needed.  A light jacket or sweater is sufficient.  If you choose a tent and sleeping bag that's ok too.  50 meters from the high tide mark is public property and you can camp out.  In Playa Zancudo they charge $1.00 a day to use the restroom & shower facilities when you are camping on the property. Search Sol Y Mar.    Playa Dominical is the same.

    Enjoy

  3. You probably will not need a sleeping bag for warmth. A hammock is a common choice for many from the backpacking set, but some people find them difficult to sleep in (including me).

If you are camping it may be best to have a very light weight sleeping bag or blanket as it can get a little chilly but not cold at night.

If you are going to stay in the "cheapest" of the hostels/hotels it may be best to bring something extra to sleep in, either a couple of sheets, sleeping bag or blankets. Some of the cheapest hotels have quite nasty beds and even for a non picky person they are best avoided. Most of the even medium priced hotels have quite decent bedding though.
