Question:

Do I need a special prescription for color contact lenses?

I have been wearing clear contacts for a while, but want to start getting colored contacts. My question is, do I need a special prescription for the colored ones so that they fit my eye? I read on my contact box that my base is 8, and radius 14. And on coastalcontacts.com they ask that, so am I okay if I know that information?

  1. You're fine with that information if all you want is the color and no prescription. You also need the + or - number on the box that says what your prescription is if you want them to help you see too.

  2. you need to go to your eyedoctor and get fitted for colored contacts. there are a few brands out there. there are two in the office that we regularly fit. they are acuvue 2 colors and freshlook. the acuvue 2 colors, in my opinion, dont look as good as the freshlook, but they tend to fit much better. you have the option between an 8.7 and and 8.3 base curve, and the diameter is 14. the freshlook have a one size fits all base curve and a 14.2 diameter. its a little harder to get on your eye and can be more uncomfortable.

like i said, you should go to your eye doctor and try on some colors so you know which one looks good on you, (the sample colors will not have a rx) and then try the clear set with the rx so you know if it will be comfortable for you or not.

please do not purchase your contacts online if your eyedoctor matches prices. its very rude and disrespectful to the people in your eye doctor's office.

    good luck
