I just purchased a 19' bay boat, which I intend to fish the texas gulf coast in shallow water 2-5 feet on occassion. Is a trolling motor a must for these shallow waters.

  1. not a must but it sure would be helpful at times

  2. did that for many years up and down the coast. a troller is very helpful but be sure it is a saltwater model. you may need a 24 volt high thrust type due to windy conditions and the weight of your boat. bow mount is the best. a jack plate is a must to get into the shallows. i ran in one foot of water with mine. getting on plane is a problem without the jackplate. you may want to consider a poling platform over your motor. luck.
