only as  an operator do  you  need any  kind  of  training.  but  general  safety isd  good  thing  to  know  anyway just  in case  the  owner  hasnt  thought  about it  since  taking  his  test.  wear  a  life  jacket

If  you  wont  wear  it then  at  least  tie  it  to  your  belt  loop or  at  least have  it  with  you as  a seat  cushion  perhaps. know  where  yours  is  at  all times. if  they  are  in storage  they  are  useless.
