Question:

Do I need an Emissions Throttle Cleanout already?

The dealership's service garage is telling me that I need a carbon emissions throttle cleanout every 15,000 miles. I was wondering if this is really necessary because I think I don't need one until my Pontiac reaches more miles.

Can anyone please tell me if it's really necessary to have an emissions clean out/ throttle job. If not, how often does a Pontiac g6 really need one?

  1. No.  First, the terminology is wrong, you have electronic fuel injection and not throttle body.  The car's computer optimizes gas/air mixture and the only variables are type or grade of gasoline, and the cleanliness or the air filter, besides density in your atmosphere/height of geographic elevation.  Use FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER from an auto parts store every 15,000 miles though I use it at every oil change.

  2. Look into your owners hand book. Do you see the carbon cleaning as part of a regular service I think Not. Known as Wallet Flushing in the automotive industry it won't hurt. However if the owners manual says to clean the throttle clean it. Just get the oil changed a new incabin air filter engine air filter and tire ballance and rotate you'll be ok. Extra flushes and injector cleaning are just ways to make your repair bill higher. Read your service requirements in the owners manual and watch the DVD that came with the car.
