Do I need an adapter if i'm just going to use a filter?

I just want to use filters for my camera, no lens. Do I still need to buy a lens adapter? can't i just stick it on the camera?

  1. It all depend of what kind of digital camera you have. There are some adapters for certain kind, and there non for certain kind. Check you camera store to make sure.


  2. Are you trying to use a filter on a DSLR or on a compact camera?

    If it's a compact camera, you'll need some adaptor, as most filter are threaded to s***w onto the front of the existing lens.

    If you're using a DSLR, the filters MUST be mounted infront of a lens.  Just get filters the same thread size (55mm, 58mm, etc) as the lens that you are using.

    Remember, the lens of the camera is the eye of the camera.  Using filters without a lens is like using glasses and removing your eyeball!  (sorry for the mental image there)
