Question:

Do I need an address in Australia to have a bank account?

When I was in Australia last year I opened an Australian bank account which i still have.

Do you know how long the bank will keep it open or what I need to do to keep it open?

I still have a small amount of money in the bank and it would be useful to keep it open.

my card is valid for another 2 years so i have access to the money.

I am from the UK and I don't have an account there any longer since you have to have an address to have one where as in Australia I haven't changed my address since I left.

Please advise where I can get information about this.

In the long term do i need an address in Australia to keep the account open?

  1. The best way would be to contact your bank, mate! They are bound to tell you exactly how it works.

  2. Hi there

You need an aussie address for a bank account here, the banks will keep your account open for one year with no activity, check on their websites, Westpac, Commonwealth, Anz whoever you are with, they are kind of fussy here though if i can help anymore just let me know

  3. Chances are they already know your not at that address from the returned bank statements and such.

Yes you will need an address and your account with be closed soon enough.
