I just got a Pioneer DEH-P3000IB and also some new(old) speakers. They're two pairs. One pair is 6x9 230w/max and the other is 6 1/2 220w/max. Do I need a amp to power these?

  1. No,you really don't need an amp. The head unit should have enough power for the speakers. If you hook up an amp and it pushes too much power to the speakers, they will blow. Never go by how much the max wattage is,go by the rms.If you play the speakers too long at high power, you could damage them.

  3. Its will sound louder and better with amp. Its depend how people like to hear.

  4. Are you listening to music, or do you just want a headache and disturb your neighbors?  See the owners manual for the unit and wire in the speakers to match it.

  5. max watts don't matter. what is the max rms???

  6. Your head unit is putting out around 15 watts rms

You dont NEED an amp they will work fine without one.  You wont get the full potential out of them, just don't crank em and they will last.

If you give them more than their rated rms you wont blow them unless you improperly set the gains and crank it up.

Those aren't the very powerful speakers so I would save your $$ until you can afford better speakers and then get an amp.
