I might be selling my car today but I needed to know exactly what I hand over...Do I just give the guy my title and get my check? Or should I create a document stating that he has ownership of my car,..etc.

  1. All you have to do is sign off of the title and get your check!! When you sign off and he gets a new title it is documented. You can make out a receipt but the title office documents. An as is might be a good thing.

  2. Get your plates off the car. keep the Registration with you. Remove the car from your insurance ASAP. Call up your DMV and ask if you can get a refund on the Registration.

Usually you do have to give a Sale Deed or Receipt for the money. Make sure you write AS IS on the deed. Also write No Warranty or Returns. Get a copy for yourself.

  3. yes you have to make a document.

  4. Definately write a receipt saying the year, make, and model of the car. Make sure you state that the car is SOLD AS IS! Put in there the date you sold it and how much you sold it for and if it was paid for in full. If balance is owed then state how much the balance is.

I would suggest having both of you sign it so he/she can't say later that it's a fake receipt...and make a copy for your own records! Try calling your local DMV as well for additional info!
