Question:

Do I need anymore programs to optimize computer performance?

I use the following programs to keep my computer running at its best:

PerfectDisk 2008

Spybot Search & Destroy

Norton AntiVirus 2008

CCleaner

(And a firewall, of course)

Am I missing any important must-have programs? Thanks!

  1. When your Norton expires do not renew it. Norton uses a lot of your system resources and is not that good. Try AVG or Avast anti virus from cnet.com.

  2. yes bookmark www.beingahuman.blogspot.com get the software it recommends youll be so glad you did

  3. You might switch to a LInux operating system to get a bit better performance, and if you get a Ubuntu disk (or download) for free, you can also have a full suite of performance tools all free, and office and accounting, free.

I have  OS Ubuntu 8.04 Linux dual boot with Vista on one machine, dual boot with XP on another but I have very little reason to use Vista... so this computer stays in Linux. I have a few old programs that run only on XP, and so I do switch the other computer to XP. Most of them can run on Vista, but only as well as on XP.

You should have a program to check to see that your ports are not left open unnecessarily. Open ports are an invitation to hacking.

  4. NO I dont think so! you have it all! :) Ha! Your computer should be fine, but having all those in combination could actually slow down the computer, but I think you should be fine. Depends on the computer RAM and stuff.

  5. yeah i you need the Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC to maintain the speed of your pc.

  6. You know ... one major problem with windows, any version of windows, is that windows can not manage the registry when programs are installed and removed.  There are always problems with the registry.  I use Norton System Works, which has a program called Norton Win Doctor.  It will find and fix registry problems.  I have seen some free programs that claim to do the same thing, but I don't know about them.  I would say that you definitely need something to repair the inevitable problems of a windows registry.
