Question:

Do I need copies of my STCW or just an MMD card?

to all of you captains out there on the high seas this question is for you ..... Im planning on being hired on a yacht, I do not have my STCW papers anymore( lost in a fire) I do however still have my MMd card( which is current)....is this all I need to be hired...to prove that I have taken the STCW 95 course?? or do captains prefer to see the copies of STCW??

  1. Have the USCG issue you a new STCW. Tell them what happened. If you go on a ocean voyage, you need it.


  2. Employers want copies of all paperwork, including drug test, FCC, MMD, STCW, Coast Guard License, and Drivers License. Contact the the trainig facility where you recieved the certificate, and Coast Guard REC where your STCW was issued for a replacement.

  3. Get a copy from your collage, you cant go wrong then . . . . . .

  4. The papers would be better to have , however some employers may take you without them, really depends on what you'll be working on.

  5. I think you need the actual papers, but I'm not 100% sure on this.  You could always ring the D.O.T, or should I say the M.S.A, and they will give it to you chapter & verse.  In any case, why not contact the training establishment that issued the papers, and ask for copies.  Good luck!
