Can I just adhere the "peel and stick" rolled ashphalt roofing onto clean dry wood or do I need felt or a moisture barrier under it. I have a very low sloped roof and found this "peel and stick" product. Not sure whether I need a moisture barrier like standard roofing shingels.

  1. The peel and stick rolled roofing you found is actually a moisture barrier and not a finished roofing product..Shingles are supposed to go over the self stick rolled roofing...This is the moisture barrier itself

  2. Your "peel and stick" materials is referred to as Ice and water shield. It is a recent addition to the roofing materials lineup for the problem of water backing up under shingles and leaking into the roof decking. It is placed down first- prior to the final roofing product such as shingles.

This would be a fine underlayment for a low sloped roof, however shingles would not be a good final product. I do not install shingles on any pitch lower than 4/12. You need to go to a half lap roll roofing product, or a modified bitumen or rubber *epdm product.

The peel and stick rubber type product seals around the nails when the puncture it, therefore nails are sealed around as soon as they are driven through this product, but it does not have a surface that is meant to be exposed to the elements.

  3. nooope.

if you put something under it, it wont stick to the roof!
