Do I need my ex-spouses SSN to file my taxes? I don't know her SSN and she won't tell me.?

I am filing seperate from her on the 1040 form. I do not know her SSN and she won't tell me.

  1. If you are filing seperately than you do not need her SSN.


  2. If you are divorced, you don't need it unless you are paying alimony and claiming it.  But if you are still legally married and filing as married filing separately, then yes you need it.  Did you ever file a joint return?  Her number should be on your copy of that, or you can get a copy from the IRS.

  3. Yes you need it on the form it ask for your ssn and then your spouses ssn you may just want to file separate since she doesn't want you to have it or fill out all the info and let her fill in her ssn in last and drop it in the mail.
