Question:

Do I need new upper control arms?

I just got a call from the dealer. They want to replace both upper control arms on my 2000 Lexus ES300 with 60,000 miles. It was inspected 3,000 miles ago with no indication of any problem. The cost will be $1,200 (with an alignment). Am I getting ripped off?

  1. 60,000 miles sounds a little soon to need replacing but if they really do need it the price of the control arm is around 160$ or so per arm, or you can replace the bushings in them at a cost of around 70 dollars

  2. i am leerey of any dealer who is not selling cars. suddenly they pay attention to the repair end of the business.

I am leery of repair shops,,,they always find more.

If your car is not giving you trouble then you should just drive it until it does.

Wrap 5 or 6 rubber bands around your wallet. that way everytime you want to open it up you will have that much more time to think about why you are opening it up.
