You don't "Need" to but it's a good idea and good for the vehicle, especially if on a hill. It helps to keep pressure off of the transmission. And if you have a manual transmission, the car could roll away even if left in gear on a steep hill. You should set the parking brake prior to putting the vehicle in park (if it's an automatic.)

since you have a "park" you're talkin about an automatic and putting the e-brake on is not necessary

you only have to do it if your car is parked up a hill, if your not then you dont have to do it. i put my e brake on all the time even if not parked on a hill, its a safe thing to do

It is a good habit to be in.  In a manual all that keeps a car from rolling on a hill if not is the compression of the motor through the gears.  If you have have a manual get on a decent hill and put the car in a high gear like 4th or 5th and it may roll but not in lower gears like 1st or reverse.  In an auto if you park on a hill and do not use the brakeyou will sometimes notice that it is harder to get out of park because the wieght of the car resting on this part of the tranny.  On close to flat ground it is not needed but it is good to stay in the habit.  The emergency brake and park brake is the same thing for those who answer and do not know this.

If its on a hill you probably should I know my sisters car wont even let you change gears sometimes if you parked on even the slightest uphill parts like a small driveway and dont apply the e brake so you have to force it till you almost break it

You don't need to, but it's a good idea, especially when it's on a hill. When in park the only thing keep ing the car from moving is a small pin inside the trans. On level ground, no big deal. On a hill, if the pin breaks, it's bye-bye to your car and anything in it's way. So I'd apply the break. Also on some cars when you apply the e-brake, it also keeps the rear brakes in adjustment and the car stops better.

Yeah. We should and it help to keep the cable moving. If you don't use parking brake. The cable will froze. in long time. If something happen when the brakes got quit and not working. How will you stop your car?? Use parking brakes.  Please don't slam on parking brake level. It will spun out on either side. take your time to use parking brake to stop when the car/van brake is not working.

and It prevent transmission damaged. When it on uneven level of parking, Use emergency brake to lock rear wheels to prevent  tranny " parking,  lock position" break.
