Do I need to be added as an extra driver on my parents' insurance?

I just got my drivers permit and am in drivers training. My parents tell me that to let me drive their car (to do my 50 hours of practice), I have to be added as an extra driver on their insurance.

What about this is or isn't true?

  1. Yes, they have to add you to their insurance. That's the only way you would be covered in case of an accident while you are driving.

  2. As much as i know, this is a question with different answers,it is really depend on yourself judgement, some great resource her for reference though.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  3. Yes, you have to be added as a driver. If you are in an accident, the insurance company will not cover the repairs unless you are. In some states, it is illegal to allow anyone to drive a vehicle unless they are covered. The bad news for your parents is it will raise their insurance rates.

Congrats on your new privilege of learning to drive!

  4. Everything is true. You must to be  added to your parens insurance policy, as  long as you live with them. That is the only way you can be covered under the terms of their policy. The only exception to thst is if you didn't live in your parents home. If you don't live with your parents, you are not required to be aded  to their insurance policy.

  5. In California, you don't need to be added as an extra driver until you get a license.  When you get a permit, you must have a licensed adult sitting next to you, and it is that person's insurance that covers you.
