  1. Nah, homeschool parent teachers usually just have to be extremist Christians or extremists in general.

  2. Nope. You just have to be patient, passionate, creative and willing to learn along with your kids.

  3. Can't speak about any place else, but here in Massachusetts, there isn't anything that ask for certification, just that you contact the school board and submit a curriculum for approval. They then inform you as to the rest that is required.

  4. Varies by state, but typically no.  The state standards for public school teachers are very weak anyway, so it isn't like you gain that much by having a teacher certification.  NJ has the toughest state standards, and they only require a 2.75 GPA over 4 years of college. Not that hard to do with an education major.

Private school teachers (at least in NJ) don't have to be certified at all.

Check out www.hslda.org for your state requirements.

  5. No. Public schools are full of certified teachers, and just look how good they're doing educating the next generation.

  6. If it is your own off spring and no other child then you can teach them without any license.

If there is a child not directly yours then you will need a teachers certificate.

Some do get away with out the certificate and do have members of other families.  Some also end up in prison.

  7. Not at all. Just pick up the materials to home school with for your child's grade level and begin.

  8. No, it's not required in any state. Some states do have an option for easier homeschooling *if* you are a certified teacher (colorado comes to mind), but it's not required.

Texas (judging from your name) is very unregulated. It's a great place to homeschool.

And hello! First answer? Buy some compassion, it's obviously lacking. I'm not extremist, much less in my Christianity.

  9. unfortunately, no....

  10. Pablo, some facts for you, you sanctimonious git!  Im not into religion, nor am I an extremist.  I AM a dedicated, devoted, loving, concerned parent who made an educated and informed decision to homeschool my daughter based on HER needs alone.  Her education is based on her learning style and doesnt need to take into account another 20-30 children.  She plays and socialises with the children she chooses according to her likes and dislikes, the same way you do, instead of being forced into sheephood with the rest of the kids in class.  While I may not have a teaching degree, which my 3 family members who are teachers assure me doesnt help much anyway, I am more than willing to learn anything I dont yet know.  The same can be said for MOST other homeschooling parents.  Yes there are some parents who fail to educate their children, but they are far from the majority.

  11. It really depends on what state you are in.  Here's an explanation of the criteria that make up each state's homeschooling requirements:

Here's where you can find your state's homeschooling laws:

    Good luck!
