We are going to camp in Butte Lake Campsite of Lassen Volcanic NP. Do we need to bring our own bear canister?

  1. No, a large steel bear box for storing all food and all odorous materials is provided at each campsite. http://www.nps.gov/lavo/planyourvisit/ca...

    Only backpackers are required to carry bear canisters.


  2. Bear boxes are standard for campgrounds in Lassen.

    Bear canisters are NOT required for the wilderness in Lassen NP - they are recommended, though.  

    Bear canisters are required by federal law for many areas in the Sierra Nevada.
