  1. no u really dnt need to buy a ticket in advance ..if u dnt need reservation... as mentioned there are always enuff seats on the trains here so u wnt find it a problem....

U can also book ur tickets and take a print out from www.sbb.ch or can also take from the automatic machines at the station

There are trains in every one hr connecting lucerne and engelberg....

  2. just buy the ticket on the day you travel... there is no shortage of seats or tickets on the Swiss rail system.  if you're trying to see both sites on the same day, you might consider buying the ticket together.  i mean that as in buy a ticket that goes from, say, Zurich to Engelberg with a stop in Luzern, and just hop off at Luzern and continue onto Engelberg later on; sometimes it can be cheaper to do it this way than to buy separate tickets (Zurich-Luzern, and Luzern-Engelberg).

  3. It doesn't matter if you buy the ticket 5 mins. before you will ride the train. You can buy it in the railway station, in the automatic ticket dispenser, or even inside the train if the train is regional ( it's IR train - meaning inter regional),this is a red train.

  4. You don't have to. If you buy it in advance you can also make a seat reservation (costs extra) but I don't think that's necessairy.
