Do I need to contact VFS personally for visit visa to US?

Somebody told me just I have to pay fees at HDFC bank and confirm my date of interview at consulate at website

Please let me know what are the correct steps

Whether I have to contact VFS office before paying fees at HDFC bank.

Whether I have to contact VFS for any documents etc..?

or directly I can go for US embassy for interview

Please let me know all the steps one by one, to help me go coorectly

Pay first the visa fees at the bank then set an appointment through the telephone number of the US Embassy.  You will be given a date for your interview in the embassy.
