Do I need to fast for this blood work? How long?

I'm scheduled for the following tests: TSH, Urinalysis, CBC, Comp Metabolic Panel, Lipid Panel and Vitamin D 25 OH. Do I have to fast from 7 in the evening or until midnight?

I did this recently and they said nothing but water or coffee after 12 pm midnight.  I try to do mine first thing in the a.m. to avoid being too hungry.  I also try to avoid red meat and deep fried foods for a few days before to keep from throwing off the test.

Your doctor should have told you when you were given the blood-work requisition.

Phone your local tele-health line and ask them.   Worst case scenario, if you don't get an answer, do the 7:00 pm the night before scenario.

You need to fast about 12-14 hours before having the lipid panel drawn and about 8 hours before having the glucose (CMP) drawn.  So, don't eat or drink anything (except water) after 7P if you're going to have your blood drawn in the morning.

With the lipid panel you should fast from 7 PM the night before.
