I'm 5'3, weigh 85 lbs, and have a very small frame. My parents insist I'm too thin and are stuffing me with unhealthy foods to promote fast weight gain.

  1. you should gain some weight but not with unhealthy foods my mom is very small framed so I know about this people say she is starving herself and that is just not  the case i see her eat but you need some fat on your body to feed your bones... 85lbs that really is just to thin, go on a weight gaining diet form the health food store and put on about 10 to 15 lbs and if you don't feel better ,,,which you just might all the better if not well, you can always lose it....

  2. Yes, your parents are right in that you are too thin.

However, if they are stuffing you with unhealthy foods, then you are also right to be alarmed about it.

Aim for a well balanced meal that has protein, carbs and vegtables.

Do not go overboard on carbs or proteins.Just eat until you are comfortably full.

Too much carbs is harmful in that you may desensitise yourself to insulin.

No junk foods, that is downright unhealthy.

If you have a tiny frame without bones sticking out and not aneroxic looking, then please continue to feel good.

As long as your health parameters are within acceptable ranges, maybe eat a little bit more ( of good stuff, of course ) to get your parents off ur back.

I would suggest you show them some info on what constitutes a healthy diet, then they can start feeding you nutritous and healthy foods. Get educated and work together!

  3. Hi, Allie:

At 5'3" and 85 lbs, even with a small frame, you are definitely underweight. However, stuffing you with unhealthy foods IS NOT the way to go. The only weight you'll gain is unhealthy fat that way.

If you want to gain "healthy weight," I suggest upping your protein and vegetable intake. As small as you are, you probably have difficulty eating very much, so try adding protein shakes (make sure they are whey protein) once or twice a day.

Another thing you need to consider - especially at 20 years old - is your bone density. The better your bone density, the less chance you have of developing osteoporosis later in life. I know it seems far away, but if you've ever seen an older woman with a hunchback and multiple leg braces, you can almost guarantee she has osteoporosis. Take care of those bones now while they're still building, and you won't have to worry about canes and casts later on!

Skim milk, low-fat cheese, low-fat cottage cheese and nonfat plain yogurt are good for building healthy muscle, while providing excellent calcium sources for your lovely bones. Eat lots of spinach salad - at your weight, your iron is probably borderline, and this can cause anemia - and a "rainbow" of veggie choices: red (tomatoes), yellow (peppers, beans), green (lettuce, cucumbers, string beans).

Add some light weightlifting and toning exercises to your workout program - they'll build both muscle and strong bones, and guarantee that you'll put on healthy weight and not fat.

Last but not least, know that your parents are just trying to do what's best for you! I, too, have a small frame, and I know it can be hard when people accuse you of being "too thin." But, sweetie, at 85 lbs, you are too thin, and they're worried.

Best of luck to you - you can do this!

  4. im 5'3'' and 105 lbs ur wayyyy to thin..

like wayyyyy to thin im not being rude but i think im skinny and my boyfriend tells me to gain weight cause he can see my ribs.. ur to skinny that could be dangerous.

please im not being rude honestly i hate when people tell me im to skinny im a little girl too, but u do need to gain weight ur probably not healthy.

  5. over weight will cause serious problem in ur future marriage life so  just try to maintain this weight

  6. it depends on your lifestyle.

if you are extrmely active, and such, then eat more, so you have the right calorie balance.

go to your doctor before you shove too much food in your stomach and get sick. only your doctor knows what is right for you. actually, you dont even have 2 go to the doctor. just call them, and ask.

  7. Ew thats sick

    GET FAT!

  8. holy shitt

yeah i would definitely gain weight ..

it's prolly unhealthy to be that small .. i'd go to a doctor and ask him or her tho .

  9. You can still eat healthy and gain weight. Things high in carbohydrates such as potatoes and noodles. You might have a fast metabolism or even other health issues that cause you to not gain weight. Why not get tested and find out what is going on with your body? Take care.
