Do I need to grout granite tile for a fireplace surround?

I am using granite tile to complete a fireplace surround and would prefer to butt the tiles up against each other for a more uniform finished look. Is this an acceptable method of laying granite tile? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  1. Absolutely! I have done several displays this way with slate and ceramic tile and it looks fantastic. Much cleaner than with grout lines.

  2. Yes, you can lay up the granite or marble with very small or no gap on a wall surface that is not exposed to moisture.

  3. well that method is OK for home owners me being an install would use 1/16" spacers. you can try to grout it but i don't think it would stay. grout has no adhesive qualities to it. grout relies on the space of the tile to hold it in place . but u can get a grout caulk that is silicon based make sure what ever u do u use unsanded grout!!!
