I have my international driver licence so can I buy a car in the USA?

It depends on what state you are trying to register the vehicle.  Some states are more lenient about having an international license.  In Pennsylvania you would have to get a PA license or PA issued ID card.  I believe Michigan and North Carolina accept any license to register a vehicle there.

  4. A drivers license is NOT required to buy a car in the USA.  A drivers license is only required to DRIVE a car in the USA.

  5. No you do not need an American driver license to buy a car in Amercia.  

    You have an international driver license and if you purchased liablity insurance from your home country then you should be able to drive the car legally in the U.S. for the remaining time on your international driver's license.  If you did not; then you will have to purchase insurance in the U.S. for the time you plan to use the car.

    Many Americans do not know what an international driver's license is.  Even many car dealers do not know what it is.  You may or may not have issues registering a new car at the dealer.  However, you have all the documents necessary to purhase the car.

    To the previous answer; no an international driver's license is issued by the home country to it's citizen; so that said citizen can legally drive in another country for about one year.  This an agreed arrangement with countries that have similar driving rules and regulations.  It is understood that the citizen of the foreign country will abide by the rules and regulations of the country being visited.  However, many Americans are not aware of international drivers license; many police are not aware of it also.  But the question asker DOES NOT need to do anything extra; in terms of their driver's license.

    If you are an international student studying abroad; your campus should have some information to help you.  If you are an Ex Pat.  Then your company should have some information that may help you.
