Do I need to have pap smear done?

I had hysterectomy done several years ago and my doctor says I do not need to have pap smear done.

Is she right?

I would be guided by my doctor.

If mine said I didn't need them any more I would gladly be done with it.

It depends on whether they left your cervix intact. If they did, then you still need one. The pap smear tests for cervical cancer. You should still see the gyn every year or two anyway, since even if you have no uterus or cervix they will still want to do breast exams, and feel your ovaries and such if you still have those.

She is right- but you still need internal exams especially if they left your ovaries intact!
