Do I need to inform the change of my VISA status?

I entered USA on L2 [spouse dependant VISA] but now while being in USA my VISA status is changed to H1b because i am working now. Please let me know that where do i need to inform this change of visa status. I am from India and have got my SSN while I was on L2 VISA. Do i need to inform SSN office as well about this?

  1. How did you become an H1B? Did you file a I-539 to change your status? If you did not then you are illegally working, even if the employer petitioned for you to work for them.

    Regardless the Social Security Office doesn't have to be informed. Your SS Card should be endorsed 'Only valid for work with Immigration permission.' Your I-94 showing H1B status is your permission.
