Do I need to jailbreak the iTouch in order to download the 2.0 firmware for free?

I just bought the iTouch and it's coming with only the January update, not the 2.0 firmware. What I need to know is I saw online that you can download the 2.0 firmware and use iTunes to install the firmware via iTunes and by pressing Shift Click (on the update button) and choose the 2.0 update that I downloaded... but does the iTouch need to be jailbroken first in order for it to work or does the jailbreak ultimatly have nothing to do really with actually upgrading the firmware?

You do not need to jailbreak in order to use the copy of 2.0 that you have.

The jailbreak is a hack to get a couple extra app's on the touch & its not really that great. Its was made before update 2.0. but now that 2.0 is out, you don't really need it anymore.  Actually if downloaded the jailbreak, you would have to reset your touch before you could install 2.0, and you would lose all your data.

So don't worry about jailbreaking your touch, just download the update.

if u jailbreak your ipod touch then ur not using itunes

theres no way u can use itunes and get it for free

unless you use a different site

but those are illigal

its only like 10 bucks

First it is called the ipod touch.and No you have to buy the 2.0 software off apple web site.
