Question:

Do I need to preserve my wedding dress?

I bought it from my neighbor. She had it in the original wrapping/cover it came in. I think she kept it in her closet for the last year. I am going to get it dry cleaned...but do I need to preserve it if I don't plan on using it until about next September...I heard it will turn a yellow color if I didn't. I don't know if this will help but the top is satin with beaded print and the bottom part is like a lacy kind of material. So do I need to preserve it....or what else can I do at home to make sure it will still look good when I use it.

  1. You really do need to have it preserved, mine turned yellow because it was not properly treated. You only have one wedding dress and you don't want to take any chances, like I did.

  2. Just get it cleaned, and wrap it in a white bedsheet laying flat (under the bed) or hanging in an acid free garment bag. If you really want, you can store it in an acid free box wrapped in acid free tissue paper. Don't leave it in a plastic bag.

  3. NO - it will not yellow (unless it is not clean) within even a few years. I have my dress (cleaned in the bag) but not preserved and it is not showing any signs of yellowing even after 6 years. My mother - in- law SWEARS by placing blue tissue paper around it as it absorbs the chemicals/oils that can cause yellowing and prevents it.

  4. it should be fine, you're not keeping it for 10 years. also i doubt you'll resell it, so you can donate it to a charity, or do fun pictures where the dress gets ruined :P
