Question:

Do I need to put a special type of engine oil in my car?

I have a 2006 Ford Fiesta. I have just checked the oil and it is quite low. Before this, I shared the car with someone and they used to change it's oil, etc - but now it is just mine and I'm not sure what oil I should put in? Can I just pick up any bottle off the shelf? Are there special types that I need to consider? Thanks for any help you can give!

  1. Why dont you ask it to the nearest ford dealer. They will give you the best answer.

  2. it should be labeled clearly on the oil filler cap.. when all else fails---

40 w.  will be fine. wont hurt a thing.  i swear.

  3. I am a mechanic and all new fords that I have seen require 5w-20 good luck with the car

  4. just look for an oil that has a grade of 20w - 50. try to stick to your major brands like castrol or valvoline, they are better than el.cheapo stuff. penrite and penzoil are too expensive for just a normal small car so save your money.

  5. Try the owners amnual as suggested above, some cars also say what type of oil they need on the filler cap. If both of these fail ask the parts store if they can look it up.

  6. Have you an owners manual? That will tell you the type and grade. If not the filler cap will tell you. As far as brand is really doesn't matter as long as you get a name brand oil.
