Do I need to put mesh in a bin cage?

I have a BIG bin cage that the hamster can't get out of so i leave the lid open but does it need any more air? I was about to build one but i decided not too since a saw the big cage. Is there anything wrong with the cage?

cutting holes would begood for air and light

cut slits in the corners and you should be able to slide wood in for levals

mesh would help it climb

make sure the wood is sutiable for hamsters
