  1. if you are going to do it do it right, strip it back, undercoat and re-paint. if you do a good job stripping it you may find you prefer the wood anyway, in which case give it a dose of wood preserver (something like cuprinol) and in future life will much easier anyway, freshen it up every couple of years without the grief

  2. If you want a nice finish on your front door strip it first and then lightly sand it and then I would put a primer coat on it and then paint it. Your front door is the first thing people see when they come to your house and it should e nice. I have painted over my old door while I was waiting to get a new one and it looked bad.

  3. Wash it down with TSP and prime ,then paint .

  4. if its glossed then you have to rub the shine off it. but if its just painted, it wont reall hurt to just paint it

rub any loose paint off and wipe down with "sugar soap" then yes paint it id say!

  5. Wash it down first..Sand back all and any loose areas..

    Undercoat and the top coat...

    End result..Perfect finish.

  6. If its glossed you need to lightly sand to give it a ' key '

just use a fine grain sandpaper and a once over.

  7. If the paint is soundly attached you need to 'key' the surface with a P80 grit paper.  And paint.

  8. It's a good idea to sand first and then wipe down for good adhesion.  Few things are more frustrating than to do a beautiful paint job and then have it peel a few days later.  Sanding gets rid of any loose or chipped paint.  I have bought some wipes that are supposed to do the same thing and they seem to work very well.  I got them at Big Lots which is a store that usually sells things left over from other stores, so I don't know where the wipes were originally sold.

  9. You only need to sand areas where the paint is peeling. You should definately wash it.

  10. I agree with GER C

  11. I agree with the lads above.
