Do I need to send the actual passport to Rome's embassy when aplying for a study permit in Canada?

I am from Greece and I am going to study in Canada.

I have to send all my papers to Rome in order to obtain my study permit in Canada.

On the instructions they ask me to send them a "valid passport or travel document". Is it really possible to ask me to send them my passport?! Did I understood correctly?

Anyone has an experience with study permits for Canada?

Visa is given on passport (Original booklet)

yes ....you must fedex or send it via courier...dont worry you will get it back...they rarely ever lose passports...they didnt mine anyways :) good luck
