Do I need to shave my cat's hair?

I have a Persian long hair cat, she is one year old now, her hair looks lovely and i take care of it, but i heard that i should have her hair shaved in summer

  1. Many do shave their longhaired cats for summer.  The cat is cooler and it's coat is easier to care for.  But it's almost the middle of August, so I would not shave her now.  Best to wait until late Spring next year.

  2. Not if you regularly brush her.  that will keep the mats out.

    To just make her have less hair you can use one of the brushes that cut the hair ...  looks like a brush you brush a horse with .  round head with WWW teeth... this pulls a LOT of hair out of the coat.

    If you allow her to get mats you still can break them apart or cut them out seperately but you have to be careful not to cut the skin.

  3. depends on how hot it gets were you live in the summer and how well you groom her. often the mats just get too impossible to brush out and this is why she may need to be shaved in the summer. as she is quite young you may not need to do it so soon, but yeah summer it is quite common to shave cats (get a professional to do it though)
