Do I need to view gross videos of animals being tortured to know that they are?

Question

I have a feeling that cows and pigs and chickens are treated badly, but do I really need to view that stuff? I'm still trying to decide whether to be a veggie, but would rather not watch those vids.

I've seen way more than I've ever wanted to (from videos)  but you can learn about whats happening to them by reading about what actually happens in the factory farms and meat processing plants.  knowledge is power.  but knowing is only half the battle.

I'd rather see the truth with my own eyes than speculate and fall prey to wishful thinking. I watch those every once in a while and I'm not afraid of becoming emotional, Just as when I see images of war-torn Iraq or a video of a grandmother helplessly wailing and cursing at the murders of her family I am not afraid of becoming emotional. I'd rather know the truth than stay blissfully unaware.

If the suffering of animals bothers you, only eat meat that would be wasted otherwise. Just don't call it vegetarianism.

I am of the belief that if one does not hunt their own meat and prepare it (kill it) with their own bare hands, one should at least know the truth of what they are eating. Watching videos on the matter helped better understand the subject. I want to know the truth and don't turn a blind eye....that is for cowards. If you are considering going veg and follow through, I see no reason for you to view the videos though. I felt I had to.

don't watch those videos... it hurts to see those. Just think about it, do you really want to be a vegetarian or not? Do you think you can handle it, your the only one who can answer that. =]

I don't think you need to watch the videos to realize that butchering animals it just that - butchering. I think I unconsciously became a vegetarian at age nine when I saw my first cows in person and saw how beautiful they are. It's a lifestyle that a few people understand where I'm living- hunters, farmers, & hillbillies. I stick  with my convictions and feel good about my eating habits. Go with your heart.

There is no need to watch if you don't want to.

And besides, other than not eating meat, there are no special requirements to fulfill or secret rituals to perform before you can be a vegetarian, It is not something you join or pledge allegiance to. You can or not be a vegetarian as your heart desires.

I've watched the videos, but I am not a vegetarian. I love eating meat, but the way they do it is sad and horrible. It's a slippery slope.  The vids are horrible but humans are made to eat a variety of foods that include meat. Salads and nuts are fine, but what's life if you can't indulge in a cheeseburger or burrito once in a while? Eating meat isn't a sin or a horrible offense, but animals DO suffer to feed us. In my opinion, the vids should be viewed to inform the masses of what exactly we are eating, but small doses suffice. A few minutes into a vid like that will be enough to inform and disgust.

Those videos are what made me a vegetarian.  You do not need to watch those videos if you know that the animals are treated horribly though.  You should try to go vegetarian  for yourself and for the animals.  Trust me you will fell so much better about your body and knowing that you are not killing animals.

If you can't handle the truth about what really goes on to those animals, than you shouldn't be eating them..

you dont need to. discovering those videos on youtube made me cry. i am now a vegetarian. they are great, gross motivation.

i didnt either but by mistake i clicked on a video of oli sykes talking about himself being vegetarian and it showed some of the stuf and then i didnt even plan it but i became a vegetarian
