Do I need to watch Angel with Buffy?

I'm currently watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD. As the seasons go on I know that Angel gets his own spin-off series that runs at the same time as the parent series. I was wondering if I needed to watch "Angel" in order to understand later seasons of "Buffy"?

No. I watched both of them. If i remember correctly they only crossed over once or twice. But you don't need to Angel to get it.

No. Angel is about Angel's life after he leaves town. Buffy continues without Angel.

While I'm tempted to agree with the rest of the folks here, I have to say that there are two occasions during Season 4 of Buffy, where Angel makes an appearance either just before or after there's a Buffy appearance on his own show.

In additon to this there are some points in Season 7 of Buffy as well, mainly regarding Faith's return and his own near the end of the Season, sure you don't have to have seen the Angel episodes to understand these moments particularily but it does add something to the mix.

As it was said before, they are 2 different shows, but I would recommend you to watch them together, because there are at least 12 crossovers (see crossover guide here http://www.simonhampel.com/buffy.html) and season 5 of Angel continues the story of one of Buffy's characters (don't want to spoil here)
