Question:

Do I need to wear a "matched" suit to an interview?

I am interviewing for a position as a research scientist. Our normal workplace attire consists of khakis and a polo shirt. Do I need to wear a suit for the interview or will black slacks and a nice shirt do? If I wear black dress pants could I substitute a twin sweater set or a really nice red and black jacket for a matching suit jacket? I never wear a matching suit and would rather not buy one if it is not necessary.

  1. I would dress a bit better then your usual work place attire of khakis and a polo shirt.  You do not need to wear a "matched suit" if you wouldn't have to wear one during work hours.  I think a nice pair of dress pants and a twin set would be fine or a nice jacked with black dress pants.  As long as it matches and isn't out of style I say go for it.

  2. Yes wear some good shirts and pants.
