dont need to weld if you can get muffer clamps most of the time

You dont need to weld it , you can buy slip on parts and clamp it all

you don't NEED to. pipe clamps are more often than not acceptable, but the chance of a leak is greater. plus there is a chance of increased noise. inspectors are looking for leaks in the exhaust, not whether or not is is clamped or welded.
