Question:

Do I need to winterize my jet ski if it will be in a heated garage all winter?

I have a 92 yamaha waverunner that will be stored in a heated garage for the winter. I'm thinking it probably won't need winterized, but I'm not sure. If not, is there anything else I need to do to ensure that it will start right up in the spring?

  1. The only reason it needs to be winterized is to keep any water in it from freezing. In a heated garage you don't need to. You need to either get the gas out of it or put some gas stabilizer in it. I would then start it and get the stabilized gas in the carburetor so nothing gums up.

  2. Winterization is not just for temperature reasons.Your heating better be electric because it is recommended use fuel stabilizer not emptying the tank. Also need to spray lubricant into motor and lubricating cables, pump bearings, wear ring, battery? Yes  YOU SHOULD HAVE A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN CHECK EVERYTHING

  3. you need to fill the tank completly full with fuel expecially if you are in an area that uses ten percent ethonol in its fuel then add the amount of fuel stabelizer needed to keep the fuel good if you don't do this then you may have a problem starting your engine in the spring

  4. Most of these answers are right.   All I would do is run all the fuel out of it.  Siphon the fuel from your fuel tank and then run the ski till dry.  This should take care of your fuel going bad.  If this is too much work than add stabilizer and run the ski every 3 weeks.  Remove the battery and store off the ground.  Next year, charge the battery, add new 91 octane fuel and go go go.....

    Good Luck.

  5. The gas will go bad in a short time.  Put some fuel stabilizer in the gas.   You will have to run it to get the stabilizer in the carb too.  If you don't the carb will gum up.   Not a bad Idea to start it once a month.

  6. 92 year model?? probably carburated engine? if so, run some fuel stabalizer through it to keep the carbs from gumming up on ya.. as long as you don't loose the heat in your garage you should be fine...

  7. What happens if the power goes out for a few days of below freezing weather.  We stored in a heated building but always winterized just in case.
