Do I need to worry about Hurricane Season in September? Planning an All-Inclusive to Mayan Riviera?

Hi there,

My wife and I are planning an All-Inclusive trip for our 1 year anniversary in September. We were thinking of going to Mayan Riviera staying at the Barcelo Palace. We've heard good things there and are very strong about going there.

Now the thing is I keep hearing people say that its Hurricane Season in september. Do I need to be worried about it? Should I change my plan and go to Puerto Vallarta instead?

Please advise if there are any other destination that you think is better to go around that time.

Date of Travel - September 20 to September 27

Much Appreciated :)

  1. Three years ago the odds were the same when "Wilma hit

You can check at the last minute and if any tropical storms have "Names" and you have cancellation insurance--

    They do move around slowly.

Cancun has a lot of solid new construction and withstood the Catagory 5 a lot better than most other Mexican cities would have.

  2. Hello Mr. C.

First of all, I would like to thank you for choosing Barceló Hotels & Resorts.

Going to Mayan Riviera, the Barceló Maya Palace Hotel is the best choice in terms of luxury.

Concerning your fear about hurricanes, we completely understand it. As it is something that can't be predicted, you have to prepare a few things in order to make sure everything is going to be fine in case a hurricane comes.

It is not predictable and we all can anticipate it. Here is a list of things to do before going to a zone of high risk of hurricanes:

-Keep yourself informed of the weather, especially the week before going.

-Check if your travel insurance allows cancelling travels for hurricanes.

-Give to your friends or family all the documentation you can concerning your travel (dates, hotel, names of travellers, insurances...)

-Make copies of your Ids, Passports, etc and give them to your family or friends just in case.

-Check with the Embassy or Consulate of your country in the country you are traveling to, if there are any procedures to do before going that could help you in case of natural disaster.

-Try to find out in your country if there is any "Emergency operation call center" phone number to have it in case you would need it.

Here is a webpage quite useful to be informed about the evolution of the hurricanes: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Hoping this information will help you, feel free to contact directly the hotel and ask them as many questions you want to.

In case you change your mind, we also have a hotel in Puerto Vallarta. The Barceló La Jolla de Mismaloya is a 5 stars luxury hotel. I am sure that you will be as pleased as with the Mayan Riviera Barceló Maya Palace hotel.

Feel free to check all rates and book on http://www.barcelo.com . Best rate online guaranteed.

Enjoy your vacations and have a wonderful 1 year anniversary.

    Barcelo.com team.

  3. The odds of a hurricane effecting your trip ( during hurricane season and to hurricane prone areas) are about 1 in 500.

So dont sweat it. It is out of your control.

  4. Most travel agencies have automatic hurricane insurance.  Check with whomever you booked your trip through to make sure.  You should be fine.  Have fun!
