Question:

Do I need toric contacts for my astigmatism?

At my last eye exam, I was found to have an astigmatism of

-1.00 in each eye. I wear normal spherical Acuvue Oasys contacts at the moment. My optomotrist says I'm borderline for torics. I think he would rather lean towards a normal spherical because it lets my eye breathe easier and is more comfortable. Do you think a -1.00 is too much astigmatism for a normal contact? Does anyone have an astigmatism like me and wears normal contacts? (I find there can be slight blurriness sometimes when I read fine print and I have to move a bit closer - maybe I'm just being to picky).

  1. if you are seeing satisfactorily with the spherical lenses then  you do not necessarily have to switch to torics.  If you feel your vision is sub-par, you may prefer the added clarity torics can provide.

  2. If you see ok with spherical lenses then you can continue using them.  You could also ask your doctor for a pair of trial toric lenses in your prescription to try them out and see if you want to go that route.  You could wear a spherical in one eye and the toric in the other for comparision.  It is your choice.

I wear a purevision toric lens in my left eye and it is really comfortable.  I have never experienced any problems with it.  I do not have any frame of reference for spherical lenses.  I have never worn them.   My astigmatism was at -1.5 by the time I started wearing contacts and I have no spherical number in my current prescription.  My contact lens is PL -1.25 X 60.

  3. Ur troic lenses is needed as the degree is a bit high. try the purevision toric or o2 optix. They are great for correcting astism.

  4. i have astigmatism...and i wear toric...1 monthlys...i find them really guud =] x*x
