Question:

Do I qualify for Immigration to Canada if I only have 2 years of college in Canada?

This kinda caught my attention in another question I asked. But anyway, I want to move to Canada. So I'm going to take 2 years of college in Canada and work for 2 years after that in Canada. If I remember correctly, they recently added a new program that allows international students to work for up 2 years after their studies depending on how long their studies were, the program is called the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. Heres the link to the page:

Ok so if I decide to work after I graduate, I would have 2 years of college and about 2 years of work correct? Does that qualify for Immigration to Canada? I guess I'm just confused as someone replied to my last question saying that 2 years of college would not qualify me for Immigration to Canada. Is that true?

I decided to double check on the assessment test on the Canada Immigration website and on the education part of the test wouldn't the 6th option be the one that applies to me?

The 6th option is:

"Obtained a two-year diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship and completed at least 14 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies"

  1. Canada has many classes of immigration.

If you already have more than 67 points on the skilled worker self assessment, you can apply as a federal skilled worker and have permanent residency in Canada from the day you arrive there.  However, this class of immigration generally takes a while to process. You can see the processing times by visa office at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information... are anywhere from 1 to 7 years depending on where you live.

You can get a student visa for now and apply for PR as a skilled federal worker from within Canada.  Your application would be sent to Buffalo and take something like 18 months to process.

Of if you complete a 2 year program, you could apply for a 3 year work permit after that, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-...

After one year of working, you can also apply under this new immigration class: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/...

  2. Canada operates on the points system.  There is a test online on their Immigration Canada website which will tell you if you are likely to have enough points to file an application.  Relatively few people can accumulate enough points to be eligible to apply and then actually get approved if they lack at least a baccalaureate degree.  If you took the test and accumulated enough points elsewhere, then congrats -- you are in a rather small minority.
