I am a single mother of 1 child with another on the way. I'm needing surgery but my medicaid gets cut off after I have this baby and I was wondering if a single mother with no job who goes to college can still qualify for medicaid?

  1. Yes, you should be eligible for Medicaid, just for the simple fact that you already have a child. You may have been cut off if you did not stay in contact with your case worker, but anyone at the Department of Human Services should be able to help. You can also usually download the application from the state website. Make sure you have a copy of your ID, SS card, any pay stubs, bank statements, and even possibly the title to whatever vehicle you may have. Every state is a little different, but that should get you going. :)

  2. First of all I will preface this by saying that it is impossible to determine Medicaid eligibility from a Y!A question.  That said, I work for OKDHS so I will try to help.  It sounds as though you are already receiving pregnancy related medicaid.  If so, you are eligible for two post-partum months of coverage after the baby is born.  Say your baby is born sometime in May, then you will stay on Medicaid for the months of June and July and come off effective Aug. 1st.  If you want medicaid after that you will need to re-apply to see if you are eligible for any further coverage.  If you have no job we are going to want to know how you are making ends meet.  The income limit is $471 for a non-pregnant, non-disabled adult (19 or older) with minor children in the home in a household of 3, so if you can get by with little or no income then that's in your favor.  Child support or contributions from others counts as income.  In-kind, that is people paying bills for you, is not counted as income.  Beyond that you will be required to co-operate with Child Support Enforcement by making a referral or referrals on your kids' dad(s).  There are also other requirements, such as we now have to verify citizenship (birth certificate), but what I have described is mainly what they will be looking at.  Your local OKDHS office will have the final determination though.  Good luck.
