Question:

Do I qualify for porcelain veneers on the NHS??

Please can anyone give me some advice? I really want to get some porcelain veneers on my teeth as they are really affecting my confidence. I have acid erosion (Due to eating too much fruit can you believe!!? I rarely drink fizzy drinks etc) and have recently had a filling on one of my front teeth which has improved the look, but the bottom of my tooth front teeth look as if they are beginning to crumble away and I hate it! I don’t think its that obvious to other people but as until this year I had never had a filling, went to the dentist every 6 months and generally had lovely teeth (If a bit discoloured) it has really knocked my self esteem. I am an NHS patient but am aware that you need to have a really good reason on health grounds to qualify for this treatment on the NHS. I can’t afford to go private. Do you think I would qualify? Other than that, does anyone know any dentists in the Hertfordshire (UK) area who charge reasonable prices for this treatment? Thanks for all your answers! x

  1. Yes you could get porcelain veneers on the NHS especially since you are going to require it on one of the teeth within your smile line. I got mine done a few months back here in London and had to pay around £200 instead of £500-£600 pounds charged by private dentist. Talk to a dentist who accepts NHS patients soon.

  2. You will not get veneers on the NHS dental scheme - not for 'acid erosion' anyway -

You will have to go private and that will cost you.

With the way the NHS is going at the moment - you will probably find that the price difference between private and NHS is not that different anyway.

  3. Composite veneers are an option if cost is a problem.... I have 4 comp. veneers 2 of which have lasted 16 years!!!!!

  4. Veneers are NOT available under the NHS under any circumstances!

the standard option is to fit crowns at £280 at time unless you qualify for free treatment.

NHS treatment is based on the state of the teeth not your psychological need.

Sorry this is elective treatment and MUST be done privately.

besides that NHS dental care is slowly vanishing in the same way NHS optical care did!
