Do I qualify for tatkaal passport ?

Hi,

I'll be taking the GRE test in first week of Sept (about 40 days).

I need passport urgently as it is the only ID they ask at the testing centre. I have all the necessary documents to apply for a passport. Am I eligible to apply for passport under tatkaal scheme ? I heard I need to provide some sort of proof to justify the urgency. What exactly is needed ? How long will it take to get the passport.

You don't need to show any proof of urgency. Its nothing but a rumour. All Indian citizens cn apply for tatkaal passport without any proof of urgency. The only extra thing you need to show is a proof of residency given by a police officer/director of state/central govt. departments on a letterhead.You can find the format for the same on www.passport.nic.in and download the form-I.  Also, you need to pay some extra money, around 2000 more for the tatkaal passport. Post police verification will be done for your passport.  The passport will be delivered to you in three working days.

Justification of urgency is not required but you must have at least 3 documents as proof. List of documents are provided in above link. Pls go through it.

every one qualifies for tatkaal. it is just a way to extract more money out of you as passport fees. just attatch a copy of the letter which says that you have to appear in gre test on so and so date
