Do I really have to take contact lens exam to get contact lens?

Hi... I have been wearing contact lens for about a year but my eyes got too dry so I started to wear glasses but now I like to wear contact lens again cause it's getting hot and my face shape is changing from glasses.

I have taken a glasses exam so I know my power. But do I need to take contact lens exam again? I know glasses exam and contact lens exam are different but since I know my power can I just order contact lens with my glasses power?

I am going to order from online cause it is so much cheaper.

so it doesn't really need an exam and I really hate to spend about $140.00 on my contact lens exam.

So please somebody tell me~

I think it is okay. There isn't any real difference between glasses and contact lenses. Go for it! However going to to the eye doctor and ordering the contacts is always safer, but online is okay to.

yes because your eyes could have changed from what they were previously. its always better to be safe than sorry. you could not get the exam, get your contacts, then ifnd out they aren't strong enough or something. then you'd have to go back anyway to get a new exam and get new contacts.

Yes, you do. First off, the "power" for glasses and contact lenses are not the same since one is in contact with your eye (hence the name...) and one is an inch away.

Second, the lens measurement also measures the size of lens you need - the diameter - as well as the "power".

Third, glasses don't change your face shape. Over 20 or 30 years, you can develop a bit of a dip in your nose (since your nose and ears actually continue to grow your whole life), but the major shape of your face doesn't change. HOWEVER, the shape of your glasses can change the appearance of the shape by emphasizing certain points (like square lenses emphasize a square chin or complement a rounded one).

You might not need to if you know your perscription but they will need to take the exam to size your eyes to the right fit with contacts.

Since your eyes get dry easily i Highly recommend Acuve Oasys.. They are excellent!

Your prescription may have changed since your last exam. Also, when I last ordered my contacts online they asked me for my optometrist's info so that they could contact them to find out when my last appointment was and to confirm my prescription and if it had been longer than a year since my last contact lens exam they said that I would have to go to an optometrist before they would send me any contacts.

You'll be able to have contact lenses that are exactly the right prescription if you get the specific exam done, and I'd really recommend that, but if you really want to do it your way, I don't see why you couldn't.

Since Contact lenses are FDA approved they are considered a prescription drug. Which means that you have to have a valid prescription to get them With accordance with the fairness to contact lens act each state gets to choose how long a contact lens prescription is good for. In every state but WA, UT, NM, MN, OH, and FL you have to get a contact lens prescription every year in order to wear contacts. In the other six states it's every 2 years.

When you order online the company is required by Federal Law to verify the prescription with your eye doctor. They have to give them 8 business hours which translates into 24 hours for the doctor to get the information to them. And if it's no longer valid they can not send out the contacts. However if you doctor neglects to hold up his part of the Federal law, which requires him to respond to all verification within the 24 hours then the company can legally send out the lenses.
