I am travelling to Thailand, Maylasia and Indonesia, using the train lots and maybe coaches, and will be staying in hostels (and cheap hotels). I think I will probably leave my bag in the hostel during the day and take a smaller bag when out and about. Do I really need to buy a backpack or should I just take a suitcase???

  1. A backpack is much easier to carry, and much easier to manoevre on a train and coach.  Also, it won't look like you are really posh so you'll hopefully be less likely to get your stuff nicked!

    Have fun.

  2. How can you be a backpacker without a backpack?  Will they even let you into the backpacker hostels without one?  only kidding.  If you're tall and athletic then a backpack is ideal because the weight is behind you and you probably don't care about whacking people standing near you (I live in London, it happens a lot).  However if you're small and not very strong then perhaps a suitcase on wheels would be better.  That's if you're not planning on hiking through rainforest to sleep under the snakes.....you never know in which case you will need a backpack.

  3. i honestly don't think you would need one as long as you have a smaller bag with you at all times....

I would suggest taking a larger rolling luggage (for all the clothes and not as important items), a duffel bag (for quick and easy access, kind of like a carry-on), and a small bag (like a Nike drawstring sports bag... I LOVE mine and always bring it on trips) for walking around with to keep your necessary items!

  4. I would say backpack is definitely more convenient than a suitcase. it's so bulky!

  5. Get a backpack!!!! There not that expensive

  6. back pack so you don`t have to keep holding a suit case plus you got both hands free
